We all love thick, glorious hair. Don’t we? I do not know anyone who loves the idea of hair fall, dull, dry, dehydrated hair, and bald patches. Most of us are willing to go the extra mile to make our hair look fabulous at all times.

If you are a hair care junkie, you must have heard of Amla powder at least once in your life. But what is it and where does it come from? Let’s find out:

What is Amla Powder?

Amla powder is essentially made from ground-up leaves of an Indian Gooseberry plant. It has been used for centuries in the hair care industry as well as in Ayurveda for treating certain diseases such as jaundice, diarrhoea, and is known for its amazing anti-inflammatory properties.

Luckily, these days it’s easily available in the market and you can make it a part of your hair care routine. You can turn it into a hair mask, conditioner, natural shampoo, and much more. Before diving into the usage, let’s explore how it will benefit your hair.

Here is how amla powder will benefit your crowning glory:

  • Hair Growth Booster
Amla is rich in minerals, vitamins, phytonutrients that are known for stimulating the growth of your hair. It is also rich in vitamin C which helps replace dead skin cells and nourish the hair follicles. All in all, using amla powder for hair makes it look healthy and shiny while increasing the volume.

  • Hair Conditioner
We all know the importance of using a hair conditioner post-shampooing it. If you have dull, dehydrated hair, you simply cannot go through the wash day without using a conditioner. It is a great idea to replace your chemical-loaded conditioners with amla. It is known for its moisturizing properties, balances the natural oil production and gives you smoother hair from root to tip.

  • Dandruff Treatment
A dry scalp is the root cause of lifeless hair. It is also one of the main reasons behind hair fall, breakage, and scalp inflammation. Amla has both anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It gets rid of dandruff, soothes your scalp, and balances sebum production. A healthy scalp is the foundation of healthy hair and that is what amla powder gives you.

  • Shine Treatment
Most of the shampoos that promise shiny hair to have amla in them. Why not go straight to the source and double the benefits? Amla contains vitamin C in large quantities which prevents premature greying, enhances the natural hair color, and gives it a much-needed shine. In just a few uses, you will be able to see a massive difference.

  • Reduced Greys
We all detest the idea of looking old and grey hair certainly doesn’t make us look younger. A lot of people struggle with premature greying of hair. Luckily, amla powder can help with the issue. Using an amla powder mask every time you shower will give your hair an oxygen boost, thereby putting an end to the problem of premature greying.

  • Thick Hair
Amla has antioxidative properties and is loaded with amino acids. Both these elements when combined add to the strength of hair and gradually make it thicker and healthier. With continual use, it will appear shiny and voluminous.

  • Clean Scalp
A healthy scalp is the root of healthy hair. Over time, dust, hair products and sebum accumulate onto our scalp, making it dirty. Only shampoo is not enough for making the scalp clean. Adding amla powder to your shampooing routine will make your scalp clean and fresh which will result in healthier hair.

  • Anti-Frizz Treatment
Amla is a great moisturizer for your hair. It restores the moisture in your hair and prevents dry, damaged locks. Dry hair is more prone to frizzing and amla takes care of the problem in the most natural way possible. Mixing a bit of powder into the conditioner will work like a charm.

There are many ways to use Amla powder on your hair. I am listing my favorite recipe for an Amla Powder Hair Mask. Here is how to create and use it:

There are plenty of ways to create a hair mask. This one is my personal favorite for hair growth. You will need; 1 tablespoon of amla powder, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Mix all three and heat them in a microwave.

Start applying the mixture to your scalp with clean fingers and massage gently. Use the leftover mixture on the ends of your hair. Tie up your hair in a bun and let the mixture sit for an hour. After one hour, dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the excess and wrap it around your head for five minutes. Wash off as usual. Do it once a week to see a major difference.
